Maryland turns Miami into a Slight Wind, 111-53

For the second game in a row, all I can say is wow. I expected to win big, but not by 57. That's our most points in an ACC game in nearly 26 years. Six in double figures, led by reserves, I mean second wavers (thx basketcases) Jade Perry and Ashleigh Newman, who each had 19. To be honest, I watched the first half
and then headed to Comcast for the disaster. (I should have stayed at home) What I saw in the first half was domination on both ends of the floor. Miami's offense never could get on track as Taylor couldn't shoot and on defense Miami didn't know who to guard. Case in point: With the score 10-4, here is what happened in the next 6 possesions: Newman 3, Newman 3 (Miami TO), Toliver 3, Missed shot, Wiley-Gatewood 3, Coleman 3. That's 5 three-pointers made by four different players. Also added into the mix were 56 rebounds compared to Miami's 25.

Winning streak reaches 24. 18-0 overall. 2-0 in conference for the first time since 2004. 4th game of 100 or better. Team is averaging 96 ppg with Sa'de. Second straight game of 56 rebounds.

Positives

  • Rebounding. Ever since the poor effort against NC State the team has attacked the glass at every chance they get. 56 rebounds in back-to-back games is impressive.
  • Jade. Back-to-back games with a double-double. Saturday it was from the line, and yesterday it was from the floor. They can let her shoot that jumper all day and eventually they will have to come out and guard her.
  • Newman. I hope this game busts her out of that shooting slump she was in. 6-of-7, two off the school record, but the school record for percentage.
  • Coleman. Rebounded from two poor scoring games, by lighting it up in the first half. Nearly a double-double at halftime.
  • Three-point shooting. 11 made and every guard but Marrone and Doron had one. Great balance.
  • The defense. Like I said, Miami looked confused in the first half and it resulted in us grabbing 13 steals, which may be a season high.

    Negatives
  • Turnovers. Too many sloppy passes from what I saw.
