Terps Make Statement, Crush Spartans, 97-57

Wow, that's all I can say is Wow. I expected a win and probably a 20-point win that gained throughout the game. I just never thought we would crush them by 40. For those that thought the 16-0 start was a fluke, guess again. For those that saw us for the first time, be afraid, be very afraid. This was the 18th-ranked team in the country and we crushed them, so I hope this is a good indication for the rest of the season.

Important Notes:

  • 5 players in double figures and that didn't include Sa'de or Marissa.
  • 56 rebounds were the most allowed by MSU all year and the most grabbed by the Terps
  • 23 straight wins, 17 to start the season.
  • Most points allowed by MSU all year.
  • Undefeated non-conference season for the first time in school history.

    Positives
  • Langhorne. So Nell Fortner doesn't think she is POY candidate? Check out this statline: 12-of-13, 9 rebounds, 3 assists against a 6'9 lady. That up and under move in the first half was unbelievable.
  • Jade Perry. 12 points, 8 from the free throw line, and 10 rebounds. Giving up nearly a foot to DeHaan, she held her own and made her buckets count.
  • Toliver. Does anyone else put their hands up the second she releases the ball? I know I do. What a pure shot to go along with 6 assists and 3 rebounds.
  • Rebounding. 56 of them, while limiting DeHaan to 4 total.
  • Never letting up. When we went up by 30, I figured we would mail it in. I was wrong as the score climbed to as high as 47 with 2:50 to go.

    Negatives
  • Yes, leave to me to find a negative. I didn't like our three-point defense. We spent a lot of time focusing on controlling the paint that we continued to leave Lucas-Perry open. We fixed it in the second half as they only made 1 but they attempted 12.

In defense of Michigan State, they played an overtime road game on Thursday before facing the Terps on Saturday. So they had no time to rest and little time to prepare.

But you're right, I never thought they'd lose by 40.
